Rosemary Sloot’s creative journey as a visual artist has been long and varied, as can be seen at her first retrospective exhibit at Westland Gallery. Centred.ca Correspondent Tami Kegley had the unique opportunity to sit down for an in-depth conversation with her at the gallery.

The interview is a timeline-based discussion of the different phases in Sloot’s artistic journey, and it provides fascinating insights into her life experience. From being the child of Dutch immigrants to the untimely passing of her husband, it is a deeply revealing conversation, with a few surprises along the way. According to Kegley, “Sitting down to have a conversation with a mature artist like Rosemary Sloot is a special thing. I hope that everyone tuning in enjoys the ride as much as I did.”

For visual references as you listen to this conversation, go to RosemarySloot.ca and click on the Exhibits tab. Each phase of her career is clearly introduced and you can view the work along with the interview. Or you can simply listen, as I did. Either way, it’s a fascinating tale worth checking out.
